- Business: AKTOR

AKTOR S.A., a member of ellaktor Group, is the largest construction company in Greece with a strong international presence in 23 countries such as Abu Dhabi, Albania, Romania. The areas of expertise of the company are the Construction of Infrastructure Projects, Building and Industrial Projects, Wastewater and Water Treatment, Photovoltaics, Technical Installations Management, Project Management and Mining / Quarrying Activities.
AKTOR S.A., with over 20 years of experience, holds a leading position in the field of wastewater treatment projects throughout Greece and abroad. ELLAKTOR Group was ranked 5th in the ENR list of the top 10 international contractors in the waste management sector, published in August 2010. In addition, AKTOR S.A. has created a specialized company with the object of Plant Management in order to lead the Greek Market in the fields of Operation, Maintenance and Management of all kinds of Building Facilities and Infrastructure. Moreover, it manages in an efficient way all stages of the development of a project, from the beginning to the completion (planning-conception-application study-construction) satisfying the requirements of cost, time and quality.
Some of the most important projects undertaken by the company, either to construct or operate, are the following: WWTP Athens Psyttalia, WWTP Thriasiou, WWTP Thessaloniki, WWTP of Tourist Areas (AINEIAS), WWTP of Ioannina, WWTP of JEBEL ALI, DOUBAI, WWTP of Bucharest, Romania, WWTP of Heraklion, Chania, Rethymnon, WWTP of Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, WWTP of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, WWTP of Bogotá, Colombia. AKTOR S.A. has carried out 5 research projects so far.
- Research Organization: AUTh

The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki is the largest Greek university. The main campus is located in the center of the city and extends over an area of about 430,000 m2, while some of its facilities, whether educational or administrative, are located outside the campus or in other cities. In total, it includes 10 faculties, consisting of 40 departments and 1 one-department faculty. There are 61 Clinics (Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine), 295 institutionalized Laboratories and 23 Study Rooms. The Central Library of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, one of the largest in the Balkans, together with the 45 regional libraries of the Departments and Schools (17 of which are institutionalized) constitute the library system of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
Laboratory of Chemical and Environmental Technology (Department of Chemistry)
The research organization that will undertake a part of this project is the Laboratory of Chemical and Environmental Technology of the Department of Chemistry of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. The members of this scientific team have many years of experience in wastewater management and treatment with participation in a large number of research projects and numerous relevant publications in scientific journals. Their research interests are mainly in the fields of environmental technology with the application of physicochemical (flotation, flocculation, filtration, adsorption, oxidation, etc.), or biological (aerobic and anaerobic) processing methods, or their appropriate combinations (biosorption, environmental biotechnology, artificial wetlands), the science and technology of separation of useful components from waste, of the recovery and removal of toxic metals from aqueous solutions, of water treatment to become potable etc.
Laboratory of Analytical Chemistry (Department of Chemical Engineering)
The collaborating laboratory for the implementation of this project will be the Analytical Chemistry Laboratory of the Department of Chemical Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. The research interests of the laboratory focus on the development and application of modern analytical methods for the analysis of samples mainly with environmental interest and not only that. The laboratory provides measurement and analysis services to public and private bodies, as well as 35 years of experience in the design, supervision of construction and the efficient operation of more than 50 water and waste treatment facilities.
Laboratory of Environmental Pollution Control (Department of Chemistry, A.U.Th.)
The second collaborating laboratory of this proposal is the Laboratory of Environmental Pollution Control of the Department of Chemistry, A.U.Th. The research interests of the laboratory focus on the development and application of analytical methods for the determination of organic micropollutants in environmental samples, the identification of organic micro pollutant transformation products using mass spectrometry (GC-MS, LC-MS, LC-TOF/MS, LC-MS/MS, IT-MS, TQ-MS, Orbitrap LC-MS), the study of physicochemical behavior and the assessment of the environmental risk of toxic organic micro pollutants in the environment, the synthesis and application of materials for the removal of organic micropollutants from environmental systems and antipollution technologies of residues of organic micropollutants in aqueous samples (Advanced Oxidative Technologies -Photocatalysis, Fenton, photoFenton, UV /H2O2, etc.).
